Commissioning and retro-commissioning
Commissioning makes sure a building’s systems work the way they were designed to. On new buildings we verify systems through to occupancy. On existing buildings we tune what is already there, which is often the cheapest energy saving available.

What it is and why it matters
New-construction commissioning (NCx) is a quality process that runs from design through construction and into occupancy. It checks that heating, cooling, ventilation and controls are installed correctly and perform to the design intent before the owner takes over.
Retro-commissioning (RCx) and recommissioning apply the same rigour to existing buildings. Over time, schedules drift, setpoints get overridden and equipment runs when no one needs it. Finding and fixing these issues usually costs little and pays back quickly.
Existing-building commissioning (EBCx) is often the first step in a retrofit plan, because it shows what can be saved before any capital is spent.
Our approach
On new buildings we review the design and set the commissioning requirements in the specifications.
We witness functional testing of the mechanical systems and controls and track every deficiency to closure.
In operating buildings we trend the controls data, walk the plant and find schedules, setpoints and sequences that waste energy.
We confirm the fixes hold and report the savings to the owner and property manager.
Building running less efficiently than it should?
Tell us about the building. We will tell you where the easy savings usually hide.
