Northline Motor
A 17,890 sq ft car dealership in Vaughan, built in 1992. sTrack carried out an ASHRAE Level 2 energy audit and HVAC recommissioning, and prepared a 10-year capital plan for the building.
| Measure | Payback | Benefit |
|---|---|---|
| Reflective window film | 2 years | $2,500 / year |
| Smart thermostats | 6 years | $1,000 / year |
| Destratification fans | 7 years | $2,000 / year |
| Heat pump rooftop units (fuel switch) | 13 years | 56% GHG reduction |
One of the most overlooked commercial energy opportunities
Showrooms are mostly glass. Solar heat gain in summer and heat loss in winter create large HVAC loads that simple window film can cut significantly.
Tall service bays stratify heat: warm air collects at the ceiling while technicians work in cooler conditions.
Many dealerships still use basic thermostats without scheduling or setback, so unoccupied spaces are heated and cooled.
Heating drives most of the emissions in these buildings, which makes them strong candidates for electrification. Switching to heat pump rooftop units can significantly reduce GHG emissions.
